Terroir and Tea

Our tea comes from Muzha, in the northern part of Taiwan. In the 1860’s the tea from Anxi was introduced here. The Muzha region developed its own way of making tea, and became famous for its subtle charcoal roasting. The Brouwer Garos Oolong is made using an ancient tea plant. Nowadays, this centuries-old tea plant tea plant is almost extinct

Taste and aroma

The first sip of our Brouwer Garos Oolong carries a very heavy roasted aroma and taste that brings to mind the best qualities of coffee. After a few seconds the tea evolves in a very smooth and gentle taste, consisting of mango-like sweetness and slightly sour notes that resemble the taste of oranges

Our High Mountain Oolongs are grown at a height of 1600 meters on the Meishan mountain and at 2000 meters on the Lishan mountain. These mountains are part of the Alishan mountain range, located in the south part of Taiwan, with the Tropic of Cancer passing through these mountains. The tea is surrounded by mist all year. These mountains are characterized by significant temperature differences between day and night. A lot of fog in the morning, combined with regular rainfall and fertile soil creates ideal conditions for the tea to grow. These conditions make the leaves grow evenly, with a uniform and very thick leaf. This creates an elegant tea with fragrant forest-like elements

Taste and aroma

The body of the tea is strong and fresh, with fragrant flowers and sugar cane. It is elegant and smooth. The aroma is like an orchid flower. The flavor changes over infusions. The first infusion has a very brisk taste. The second or third will taste more sweet, smooth and round. The higher the tea grows the more subtle and elegant it becomes. The highest growing varieties have hints of pineapple and muscatel

Yellow oolong is a variety of the Oolong family, mainly known for its creamy flavors. This tea is grown at a height of 1300 meters on Alishan Mountain. Unique to the highest quality varieties, this tea also has a special floral aftertaste
